Dancing can keep you fit, healthy and alert

If you’ve recently enjoyed watching ballroom dancing on the television, you might want to consider putting on your dancing shoes.

Dancing is great for your health and state of mind, according to research by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. As a gentle exercise it is good for burning off a few unwanted calories. Remembering your foxtrot from your quickstep can also help lower the risk of dementia and Alzheimer's.

You can learn to dance at any age and there are many instances of couples dancing happily into their 90s.

If you’re not sure about your health though, don’t forget to take a health check before trying anything too strenuous.
