Retirement checklist
With the average person living 20-25 years past State Pension age, it is worth keeping up-to-date with information about retirement and the options available.
Some reforms to State Pension include:
- three quarters of women reaching State Pension age in 2010 will get a full basic State Pension, compared to around half without these reforms. By 2025, this will rise to over 90 per cent of women getting a full basic State Pension
- from 6 April eligible people will be able to buy extra years to add to their National Insurance account – boosting their State Pension on retirement
There are also some simple checks everyone can make:
- Get your State Pension forecast by going online or calling The Pension Service
- Find the date you’ll get your State Pension using State Pension age calculator
- Find out if buying extra National Insurance could give you a bigger State Pension
- Use The Pension Tracing Service to uncover a forgotten private pension
- Find out if deferring your State Pension is right for you
- Speak to your employer about working on or going part-time
