Centenarian tops 100mph on race circuit

A woman has celebrated her upcoming 107th birthday with a 108mph charge around the famous Brands Hatch circuit in Kent.

Dulcibella King-Hall completed four laps of the 1.6 mile course in the passenger seat of a BMW M3. Driver Gary Palmer pushed the car to a top speed of 108mph.

After finishing the session, Miss King-Hall, of Tunbridge Wells, was helped back into her wheelchair, saying: “It could have been faster.”

She added: “I felt really excited but I was not frightened. I’ve always liked cars and the feeling of going that fast was just amazing.”

Lena Akers, social events coordinator at Halliwell nursing home, where Miss King-Hall lives, said: “During the Second World War, Dulcibella tested a wide variety of vehicles commandeered from civilian use.”
